About Golden Yards

Golden Yards is an independent outdoor living magazine that publishes cost guides, calculators, and free contractor matching for California homeowners, operating from Los Angeles, California and founded in 2024.

Who we are

Golden Yards is published by JOYOAI LLC, a California limited liability company headquartered at 1100 South Robertson Boulevard, Los Angeles. We launched in 2024 to give California homeowners an honest place to research outdoor projects: driveways, hardscape, pools, artificial turf, outdoor kitchens, ADUs, roofing, and landscaping.

We sit between the contractor blog (which is a pitch) and the national directory (which is a thin lead-broker). We are an editorial magazine. Every guide is written by a named editor, every dollar figure carries a year, and every recommendation is made independently of which contractors are currently in our matching network.

The magazine is produced by a five-person editorial team writing under five bylines. AI-assisted research and drafting is disclosed on every article via an on-page badge. Every article passes human editorial review under JOYOAI LLC oversight before publish.

What we cover and who we serve

Primary coverage is the Greater Los Angeles metro: the Westside, San Fernando Valley, South Bay, and San Gabriel Valley. We extended coverage to Highland Park, Texas in 2026. Additional California metros (San Diego, San Francisco, Sacramento) and Sunbelt cities receive ongoing guest editorial coverage on a per-project basis.

Our readers are California homeowners planning outdoor projects in the $10,000 to $250,000 range. They are not designers and they are not contractors. They are people about to write a large check and they want to know what the check is buying. Our guides are written for that decision.

We cover the categories where the existing top results do not actually help. If a homeowner can find a clean, sourced answer in five minutes elsewhere, we do not duplicate it. We write the guide that was missing.

Editorial network

For indoor remodels

Golden Yards focuses on outdoor living. For kitchen, bath, flooring, ADU, and whole-home renovation planning, our companion renovation magazine is Renology. It publishes homeowner-first renovation guides, cost context, and contractor-planning resources for major remodel decisions.

Editorial standards and business model

Golden Yards earns revenue through its Project Match service: vetted contractors pay a referral fee when a homeowner accepts a match. Homeowners use the service free of charge. The editorial team is paid by JOYOAI LLC, not by individual contractors or brands.

Editorial decisions (what we cover, which products and approaches we recommend, which contractors we vet for the network) are made independently of which contractors are currently paying matching fees. We do not accept personal payments, gifts, or services in exchange for coverage, and we do not sell mentions, links, or favorable placements inside editorial guides. When a guide discusses a brand or contractor with whom we have a commercial relationship, we disclose that relationship inline.

If we get something wrong, we fix it and say so. Substantive corrections are appended to the bottom of the article with the date. To report an error, email hello@goldenyardsmag.com.

Expert content

Every guide is researched, fact-checked, and written by a named editor. Cost figures carry a year. Sources are linked.

Real cost data

Calculators use current California market rates from 2026 contractor interviews and public permit records.

Vetted pros only

The matching network includes only licensed, insured contractors with verified track records and strong customer reviews.

No paid placements

Editorial guides do not accept paid mentions, links, or favorable placements. Recommendations are based on research, not sponsorships.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the most common questions about Golden Yards.

What is Golden Yards?

Golden Yards is an independent outdoor living magazine for California homeowners. Who runs Golden Yards?

Golden Yards is produced by a small editorial team writing under five editorial bylines: Maya Rivera (senior editor, outdoor living), Tomás Reyes (hardscape), Hannah Kessler (design), David Kim (cost guides), and Mike Reynolds (structural and outdoor). The editorial team operates under JOYOAI LLC oversight, with AI-assisted research and human editorial review before publish.

Where is Golden Yards based?

Golden Yards is headquartered at 1100 South Robertson Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90035. Editorial coverage centers on the Los Angeles metro and is expanding to Highland Park, Texas in 2026, with guest editorial coverage of additional California and Sunbelt cities.

What markets does Golden Yards cover?

Primary coverage is Greater Los Angeles, including the Westside, San Fernando Valley, South Bay, and San Gabriel Valley. Wave 2 coverage launched in Highland Park, Texas in 2026. Additional California metros (San Diego, San Francisco, Sacramento) and Sunbelt cities receive ongoing guest editorial coverage on a per-project basis.

How is Golden Yards different from Houzz?

Houzz is a national directory and inspiration platform that monetizes through contractor lead sales and product affiliate placements. Golden Yards is an editorial magazine: every cost figure is dated, every guide is written by a named editor, and recommendations are made independently of which contractors are in the matchmaking network. Houzz favors breadth; Golden Yards favors depth on a small set of California metros.

Is Golden Yards a contractor or a magazine?

Golden Yards is a magazine, not a contractor. It does not design, build, or install outdoor projects. It publishes editorial guidance and operates a free matching service that connects homeowners with licensed, insured local contractors. Contractors in the network are independent businesses; Golden Yards holds no ownership stake in any contractor it matches.

How does Golden Yards make money?

Golden Yards earns revenue through its Project Match service: vetted contractors pay a referral fee when a homeowner accepts a match. Homeowners use the service free of charge. The editorial team is paid by JOYOAI LLC, not by individual contractors or brands, and editorial decisions are made independently of which contractors are currently in the matchmaking network. Sponsored content, when used, is labeled.
