A 10x20 driveway is 200 square feet, the size of a single strip to a detached garage. At the rates this estimator uses that is $2,400 to $4,000 in stamped concrete, $3,000 to $6,000 in standard pavers, $4,000 to $7,000 in permeable pavers, and $5,000 to $10,000 in premium stone.
Add roughly $1,000 to $1,600 if the old surface has to come out first.
A double car driveway is about 600 square feet. Stamped concrete lands at $7,200 to $12,000, standard pavers at $9,000 to $18,000, permeable pavers at $12,000 to $21,000, and premium stone at $15,000 to $30,000.
Tear-out on that size adds $3,000 to $4,800, which is often the single biggest gap between two quotes on the same driveway.
The number covers the driveway surface in the material you picked. Demolition of the existing driveway and a connecting walkway are optional add-ons you switch on above, and everything else is site specific: drainage work, retaining, difficult access, and permit fees where your city charges them.
Because two driveways of the same size rarely cost the same. The low end assumes straightforward access and a simple rectangular layout. The top end reflects harder site conditions, tight access, curves and cuts, and higher grade material inside the same category.
Treat the range as the bracket your quotes should fall inside, and ask any contractor whose number sits outside it to explain why.
